TEACHING WITH PASSION
Being the Artistic Director of Irama Music Studio since 2007 has given me ample opportunities to perform, educate, and nurture young students to be a better listener, performer, and critical thinker of the music that they are learning.
One of my main goals of teaching is to cultivate the body, mind, and then heart. I believe that these three things work together to develop one's own personality and aesthetic interpretation in understanding music of composers living in different times and cultures.
Having a strong foundation in piano technique is the first and foremost important step to know the piano as an aesthetic medium. This must be developed together with the mind by attending concerts, listening to music, playing chamber music, reading, going to museums, going for a nature walk, and other mindful activities. The heart and passion in music will ultimately show itself after years of positive learning and tending growth in body and mind. There are always new things to discover, learn, and be inspired. There is no end to learning!
